Attendance Goal for 2011 – 2012

How do we achieve this goal?

Research indicates that to effect a change in attendance in high schools, we should:

  • Create a safe and personalized environment
  • Offer career counseling and curriculum options
  • Set examples with our attendance/tardiness
  • Intervene early and Reward good performance
  • Be consistent

Remind your students of the attendance policy, often…

10 unexcused absences per year, 5 per semester

They can be ‘x’ed out of a particular class.

1st period must be completed by 8:00 am so that the data can be input into the computer.  Our SchoolReach phone system will be used to contact parents of absent students.

    Teacher Comments and Suggestions:

    1. Missed work in folder for students when they return.
    2. School-wide recognition for previous days perfect attendance and reward at some point in month.
    3. Administrators are present.
    4. Parking lot duty people to “push” students in at bell time.
    5. Use Infinite Campus to print out progress reports with attendance and grade information.
    6. Translate the announcements for the ELL students.
    7. Picture lookbook
